This course is intended for all levels of staff, and no prior knowledge is assumed or required but staff involved with administering medication may benefit from further in depth knowledge to be able to administer these procedures safely.

Duration:

Course Aims:
  • To increase candidates' knowledge of how different types of drops or sprays application are administered correctly
  • To have an increased understanding of why Inhalers are required and the correct way of how to assist someone using their inhaler
  • Recognise and demonstrate safe practice when administering Ear/Eye/Nasal drop/spray application
  • To recognise the difference between a Preventer Inhaler and a Reliever Inhaler and understand their reasons for use


Diabetes Awareness

  • Identify how Diabetes can be treated very successfully


End of Life Care

Course Aims:
  • To increase your knowledge and increase your understanding of how to care for someone that needs: Stoma Care, PEG Feeding Awareness, Incontinence Care, Pressure sores and care, Catheter care, Conveen application, Surgical stockings, Hearing aids, Prosthesis
  • Know what a stoma is and how to assist someone with emptying and changing their bag
  • Know what Gastrostomy Feeding is and what your roles and responsibilities are in caring for someone who has Gastrostomy Feeding
  • Name a variety of Incontinence pads used in the community
  • Be able to identify risks of Pressure sores and recognise what care is required to reduce these risks
  • Know your role as a carer regarding emptying a Catheter bag, and changing a Catheter bag, and recognise the risks of Infection if not carried out correctly
  • Know how to apply a Conveen onto a male customer
  • How to assist someone with their Surgical Stockings, putting in their Hearing Aid/s, application and use of their Prosthesis


Team Building
